Tooth Coloured Fillings
What is a tooth coloured filling?
A tooth coloured filling, known as a composite restoration, is used to fill the area of the tooth that was damaged by decay or trauma. It is closely matched to the natural tooth shade, making it less noticeable and aesthetically pleasing. The tooth is prepared for the tooth coloured filling and the filling is bonded mechanically and chemically to the tooth to strengthen the tooth and provide optimal support.
How much does a tooth coloured filling cost?
The cost of a tooth filling can vary largely based on the size of the filling, complexity of the procedure and if additional treatment is needed. It is always a good idea to consult with one of our dentists at Q Dental who will perform a thorough check-up and give you a treatment plan with all appropriate treatment options as well as cost estimates for any treatment you may need.
Does a tooth coloured filling hurt?
Our dentists always provide numbing for any fillings. After the area is gently numbed, the decay or damaged tooth structure is carefully removed from the tooth. Once only healthy and strong tooth structure remains, a tooth coloured filling is meticulously bonded to the tooth and the cavity filled and the anatomy restored, and then it is polished. Our dental team work very hard to ensure that the procedure is as comfortable as possible for you and are committed to you having a positive experience.
How long does a tooth coloured filling last?
The lifespan of a tooth coloured composite resin filling depends varies depending on factors such as the size of the filling, your oral hygiene habits, and the most significant factors are the conditions in which the filling was done and the dentist’s skill. Our dentists will use a rubber dam sheet wherever possible. It is a protective sheet used to protect the filling from moisture contamination by saliva and water in order to have optimal conditions and maximise the adhesion from the bonding between the composite resin material and the tooth. This will significantly improve the lifespan of the filling. Additionally, your dentist will monitor the condition of your fillings during your regular check ups and advise you when it’s time to replace the fillings, if necessary in order to prevent progression of disease.
