Some Smiles Need a Little Reimagining

Porcelain veneers sit at the pinnacle of cosmetic dentistry. At Q Dental, we’ve spent over 40 years helping Melbourne families love the way they look. And for patients seeking the most natural, lasting, and transformative result available, porcelain veneers are frequently the answer.
Every set of veneers we create is bespoke; designed around your face, your proportions, your personality, and your goals. The result should look like you, only better.

Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin ceramic shells, custom-crafted to bond to the front surface of your natural teeth. Porcelain has an extraordinary ability to mimic the light-reflecting quality and subtle translucency of natural tooth enamel, so done well, no one should be able to tell where your tooth ends and the veneer begins.

In a single coordinated treatment, veneers can address:

  • Discolouration that whitening alone can’t resolve
  • Chips, cracks, or worn edges that age a smile prematurely
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Minor misalignment or uneven sizing
  • Teeth that are too small, too short, or poorly shaped

Rather than fixing one thing at a time, veneers allow us to redesign the entire visible portion of your smile.

Composite resin veneers are a lower-cost alternative, but porcelain outperforms them in almost every meaningful way over time:

Porcelain is stain-resistant

Even more so than your natural enamel. Porcelain repels stains from coffee, tea, red wine, and other culprits. Your smile stays bright without the ongoing whitening treatments that composite often demands.

Porcelain lasts

With proper care, our high-quality porcelain veneers can last 10 to 20 years or more. That longevity changes the economics of the decision significantly. The higher upfront investment reflects a material and process that genuinely delivers at least decade-long results.

Porcelain requires less maintenance

Porcelain is more resistant to wear, chipping, and staining than composite, which means less time in the dental chair managing the finish of your smile over the years.

Porcelain looks like teeth

The ceramic we use interacts with light the way natural enamel does. When the craftsmanship is right, the result is simply a smile that looks like your best self.

The Q Dental Approach

Here’s what the porcelain veneer journey looks like:

Step 1: Consultation

We begin with a thorough conversation about your goals, then use Digital Smile Design (DSD), software that lets us co-design your new smile before anything is touched. We take high-resolution photographs and 3D scans of your teeth, face, and smile. The DSD software analyses your facial structure, lip line, and existing dental architecture to propose a smile design that’s harmonious with your features.

You’ll see your proposed smile from every angle on screen. Want the teeth slightly shorter? A softer edge? We adjust in real time, together, until the design feels right.

Step 2: Your trial smile

We create a physical mock-up of your new smile, a highly accurate, wearable preview of your final result. At your trial smile appointment, we can temporarily place this design in your mouth so you can see it, feel it, and try it, all of which we photograph, so you can check it out again at home. You experience exactly what you’re committing to before a single permanent decision is made.

Step 3: Preparation

When you’re ready to proceed, your teeth undergo a highly precise, minimally invasive preparation. This is a step we approach with real care as we’re committed to preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible, because what lies behind the smile matters just as much as what’s in front of it.

A digital 3D scan is taken and sent to our master ceramist, who handcrafts your veneers in the laboratory. In the meantime, you’ll be fitted with temporary veneers which mimic the proposed end result, so you can continue studying your new smile, wear it through your everyday life, and flag any refinements before the final set is made.

Step 4: Your new smile

When your custom porcelain veneers arrive, we try them in carefully to confirm colour, shape, and fit in your mouth, in your light. Once every detail is confirmed to your satisfaction, the veneers are securely bonded in place. Final polishing and refinements bring everything to a beautiful finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

With proper care like regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups, porcelain veneers typically last between 10 and 20 years, and sometimes longer. Avoiding habits like nail-biting or using your teeth as tools will extend their life considerably.

In the hands of experienced clinicians and a skilled ceramist, porcelain veneers are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. The material’s light-reflecting properties closely mimic natural enamel, and we design in a way that works with your facial features, not against them.

Some patients experience mild sensitivity following preparation, as a small amount of enamel is removed. This typically settles within a few days. Your temporary veneers protect the teeth during this period, and we’ll guide you through what to expect at every stage.

Porcelain doesn’t respond to whitening treatments the way natural enamel does. We’ll help you select the right shade at the design stage, often recommending a whitening course beforehand so we can match your natural teeth to their brightest.

Most adults with good underlying dental health are candidates. If there are active issues like decay or gum disease, these need to be resolved before veneer treatment begins. A thorough consultation at Q Dental will confirm your suitability and give you a clear picture of what’s achievable.

Cost depends on the number of veneers and the complexity of your case. We provide transparent, detailed quotes at consultation, and we’re happy to discuss options for managing the investment.
